Crews fought the flames in the early hours of Saturday morning

A fire that destroyed a derelict building in Ottery St Mary is thought to have been started deliberately.

Fire fighters attended the blaze in the abandoned Ottermill Switchgear premises near Bridge house, Mill Street in the early hours of Saturday morning (October 3).

A unit from Ottery and two from Honiton were called to the incident at 2.10am and crews were at the scene for four hours.

A spokesman for the fire service said it is believed the flames were started deliberately.
