FIRE and rescue chiefs have reminded hotel and bed and breakfast operators of their responsibilities under safety legislation.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service community safety manager, Nick Manning, said: “It’s quite right people paying for accommodation are protected to a standard where they can be confident of a safe night’s sleep. Holiday accommodation, which forms an essential major industry in Devon, is captured by fire safety law and therefore it should be ensured that an adequate risk assessment is completed and appropriate fire precautions provided, these must be maintained in a condition that ensures they will work when required. “
