Hedge blaze prompts firefighter dash
FIREFIGHTERS tackled a hedge blaze in Ottery when a resident noiticed her garden was on fire.
A crew from Exeter raced to Winters Lane at around 2pm on Friday to extinguish flames.
Resident Alison Puttick dialled 999 after noticing the fire.
“In the corner of the hedge there was a pile of cuttings. Whether it’s because it was hot and they set on fire somehow, or somebody has done this, I don’t know,” she said. “Because it was windy, it started to blow all over and spread along the hedge.”
Fire chiefs said on Monday they do not know what started the blaze, but did not suspect it was suspicious.
