FIREFIGHTERS are gearing up to take on a cycle challenge to raise money for Cancer Research UK.Members of Firefighters Fighting Cancer have joined forces with the charity to organise the challenge across Dartmoor. Starting at Plympton, participants can choose either a 25 or 50-mile course. Each of the courses follows the old railway track on to the moor and circles Burrator Reservoir, with the longer course looping around Princetown. The team is made up of Chris Hunt, Ian Robson and Sean Faulkener, who are all Exeter firemen living in Sidmouth, Jon Miller, who lives in the town but works in Shepton Mallet, Gary Judge, of Teignmouth, who works in Paignton, and Colin Tyrer of Whimple.Over the past three years, the team have undertaken numerous charity events including car washes, carnivals, raffles, endurance mountain bike rides and the trek from John O'Groats to Lands End.The Dartmoor cycle challenge debuted last year, when 300 cyclists took part, raising £27,000.Events co-ordinator Jon Miller said: "The team are very dedicated and hope to raise as much money as possible to help in fighting cancer. We are looking to take the total raised so far from the current amount of £65,000 to over £100,000."The Dartmoor challenge takes place on Sunday, June 8.
