A signmaking firm marked 50 years in business by donating 50 hours’ free labour to the Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth.

Tiverton-based KWS giving away an array of bespoke marketing material to charities, independent retailers and schools throughout Devon, and has also organised a fun-run that raised more than £3,000 for CLIC Sargent.

Continuing the community spirit, the family-run company closed its office for a day, and the full team of eight, including directors, gave their time to the Donkey Sanctuary.

Sales director Ben White, son of founder Ken White, said: “My brothers and I are very proud to be part of a family-run company, started by our Mum and Dad back in 1967.

“We felt it was important to celebrate this significant milestone in our business by giving back to the local community, and the whole team were right behind us in offering 50 hours free labour to the Donkey Sanctuary.

“It was also turned into a great team-building and fun day!”

Works carried out by the KWS team took place at the donkey-assisted therapy centre.

Armed with paint pots and brushes, they renovated an existing pagoda, part of the sensory trail road and designed bespoke animated woodland characters that were fitted to the roof.

Donkey-assisted therapy centre manager Vicky Branch said: “Things have evolved over the last 40 years, and we have a new programme of donkey facilitated learning.

“The sensory trail ride is an integral part of this programme – so team’s very generous contribution of putting the panels on the ceiling is huge.”
