People of all ages took to the catwalk in ethical fashion to celebrate Sidmouth’s new status as a Fairtrade town.
Representatives of the valley’s churches, town councillors and the chamber of commerce were among more than 160 supporters.
The event, on Saturday, October 8, raised nearly £500, which will be shared between Christian Aid and Sidmouth Fairtrade Group.
There were Faitrade clothes, drinks and other items on offer, with Traidcraft, the Buturi project in Tanzania and Sancho’s Dress together selling goods worth more than £750.
Helpers of all ages, ranging from 11 to 90 years old, took on roles varying from everything from models, welcomers and stall holders to kitchen helpers, setting-up volunteers and sweepers.
A bike-powered smoothie machine used fruit donated by Sidmouth’s Co-operative store and proved a great attraction with youngsters.
The Sidmouth group is now looking ahead to Fairtrade Fortnight, which will run from February 27 to March 12.
