A GROUP of former teachers, including a past head, joined farewell presentations at All Saints Infants, Sidmouth, on Friday to say goodbye to Sandra Legg, who retired after 30 years as teaching assistant.

She and teacher Linda Ambrose received a number of presents from staff, pupils and parents after children paraded in their Easter bonnets at the end of term.

Miss Sheila Adams, head during the late 1970s, with Nancye Barnes, Marion Baker and Christine Rew, mingled with parents, congratulating Sandra after she opened her gifts, which included a stunning necklace and a book of drawings by pupils.

Miss Adams said: "It is still the same atmosphere, it brings back lots of memories."

Sandra, who lives in Sidford, ran the pre-school group Stepping Stones for 10 years and has been teaching assistant for reception pupils more recently.

She said: "I have been here a very long time and have absolutely loved the whole 30 years I've been here.

"The children are super, the parents are wonderful and support from school staff have all made this a really good place to work.

"Because there are always new children and parents you don't get bored because there is always something new happening."

She said she was overwhelmed by the generosity of those giving her gifts.

"I will miss the children a lot and hope to be able to come back and see them now and again."

As well as enjoying tennis, Sandra will be spending time with her daughter and grandchildren in France where they live, and walking on Dartmoor.

Both she and Linda received retirement cakes baked by Andrea Gosling.
