PLANS for apartments on the site of Sidmouth’s former Fortfield Hotel have been revealed.

As the artist’s impression above shows, the proposed building has been reduced in height by one storey and features nine less dwellings compared to early proposals.

Sketches show similar architecture to designs displayed at a public exhibition in March.

Hopeful developer, ZeroC, says the key features of its scheme are:

l 31 two and three bedroom private dwellings over four floors;

l High-quality architecture;

l Underground parking;

l District biomass heating and solar photovoltaic roof panels;

l Landscaped gardens.

Earlier designs featuring 48 apartments were scrapped in February and a new architect was employed.

A ZeroC spokesman said: “The revised scheme is much more traditional in its design and is significantly lower than the former Fortfield Hotel. Former gardens are being retained for the apartments. Covenants are being put in place that will safeguard these gardens from future development.”

ZeroC hopes to begin construction before the end of 2011 and the process will take 15 months.
