Heavy rainfall caused flash-flooding in Sidmouth last week and closed off Woolbrook Road during rush-hour with a ‘fountain’ of water.
Police diverted traffic on Thursday, June 21, leaving passengers stranded at the bus stop as the 52B took an alternative route to avoid the waterlogged streets.
Drain covers were lifted as water thundered up and out on to the road after sustained rainfall had proved too much for the brook which runs alongside it.
Resident Elizabeth Cotton said she was shocked to find Woolbrook Road under-water when she arrived home.
She said the police and South West Water closed the street for several hours to fix the problem after the exceptionally heavy rain.
