Free blood pressure checks are being offered in Ottery to help raise awareness of the possibility of strokes
The Otter Valley Rotary Club, in conjunction with the Stroke Awareness Association, have arranged for retired doctors and state registered nurses to take people’s blood pressure on the morning of Saturday, April 16 at Coleridge Pre-school
The aim of the event is to highlight that high blood pressure is the single biggest risk factor for stroke, but as it is symptomless many people are unaware they have it. If they are tested they can be treated effectively through prescribed drugs and making lifestyle changes, and Michael McMahon of the Stroke Association believes 40 per cent of strokes caused by high blood pressure could be prevented through the control of that condition.
The testing is from 9.30am until noon at the pre-school on Jesu St.
