Saxsation Sax Quartet joins gospel choir for charity concert at Sidmouth Parish Church

MEMBERS of Sidmouth Gospel Choir will remember friends Susan Barton and soldier Corporal Stephen Curley at a Songs of Hope concert at Sidmouth Parish Church.

Susan, a retired head teacher, who volunteered for The Hope Christian Trust and set up the Kindergarten Lighthouse School in Gaza, died of cancer in May, while Corporal Curley, whose widow Kirianne is a former Sidmouth College student and has parents living locally, was killed in action in Afghanistan by a roadside bomb at around the same time.

The choir will link with Saxsation Sax Quartet for the concert, which takes place at 7.30pm on Saturday, October 9.

Choir member Anni Hindle plays with the quartet, which is coming together especially for the concert.

The gospel choir has been singing together since 2003. Founder member Angie Carney leads the choir, supported by Ann Garner, Nigel Riddle, Susi Venn and Kim Pritchard.

Musical director is Andrew Hague and on keys is primary head Clive ‘Sam’ Salmon. Proceeds will go to Care for the Family and The Hope Christian Trust

Angie said: “We are always happy to invite new members to join SGC. There is no audition and no need to read music as we learn by ear. We are especially interested in recruiting sopranos at the moment and are also on the look out for any musicians who may like to join us.”
