Fundraiser for Sidmouth RNLI raises £217

The eighth annual event held in memory of an RNLI supporter has raised £217 for the charity’s Sidmouth branch.
A fundraising evening at the Rising Sun pub in Sidford was organised by the late Mike Channing’s grandsons Louis and Adam Squance and his granddaughter, Amy.
Those who attended played the card game euchre and enjoyed a buffet put on by the landlord and landlady - Chris and Ceri Ward.
The money raised from the evening was then presented to Nigel Ruddle, from the Sidmouth RNLI branch.
During his life, Mike had always supported the RNLI because of the connection with his marine-based RAF national service duties.

He also thought the appalling loss of life of RNLI crewman after the Penlee disaster, for which he and other locals raised a lot of money, deserved to be remembered in some way.
Mike’s son, Steve, carried on the tradition and now so have his grandchildren.

Val Huntington, of the Sidmouth RNLI branch, said everyone had a lovely evening and thanked all those who supported the successful event. The charity will be holding a street collection tomorrow on The Esplanade, when an RNLI lifeboat should also be attending.
