Swimmers went above and beyond completing a whopping 2,663 lengths at the annual town swimathon - the equivalent of crossing the English Channel and back.
In total, 24 teams made a splash at Saturday’s event which was held by the town’s rotary club in aid of the Sid Valley Memory Café, Sidmouth Hospiscare and the Sidmouth Gig Club. There were 146 participants who went to great lengths for the event, which has been running for more than 10 years.
Organiser Nigel Sharp, of the Rotary Club of Sidmouth said the evening was ‘probably the best so far’ and expressed his thanks to all the participating teams.
The first ever Victoria Hotel Cup went to the team that swam the most lengths in 55 minutes and the winner was a family from Newton Poppleford with 174 lengths.
Second place was the East Devon Dance Academy with 162 lengths and completing the podium was the Sidmouth Running Club with 149 lengths.
