A ‘quacking’ amount of money was raised for charity as Sidmouth Lions held its ever-popular duck derby on Sunday.
The day’s events, which were boosted by the ‘extraordinary generosity’ of the public, helped generate more than £5,300 for a clutch of charities and good causes.
Dozens of excited children and parents gathered in The Byes to help start the fun, participating the annual Duck and Spoon fun races. The red duck race - sponsored by businesses in and around Sidmouth - raised just more than £2,000 for charity, with the first three winners getting to choose which causes their prize money went to.
Calm waters slowed the progress of the main yellow duck race, with the leading ducks taking little more than an hour to reach the finish line. The race generated £3,300 for charity.
