Community groups in Sidmouth are looking to secure vital votes to win the chance to transform an outdoor area of their choice.

Sidmouth’s Wyevale Garden Centre is looking to ‘give something back to the community’ and has shortlisted Sidmouth in Bloom, Sidmouth Primary School and Sidbury Primary School as its chosen three projects.

Shoppers will have the final decision in a public vote by placing a plant bulb in the box of their choice. The competition will run from May 31 to Sunday, June 19.

If crowned winners, Sidmouth In Bloom would work with the garden centre and Sidmouth Town Council to make over an area of the town’s Old Boat Park for the community to enjoy.

Sidmouth Primary School would use the transformation to improve one of its garden areas to ‘enhance pupils’ learning’.

Sidbury Primary School would create an educational and outdoor learning environment for its five classes to use.

Garden centre manager Nigel Coombs said: “We are thrilled to be doing a project that gives something back to the community, and that chimes closely with local values and interests. We have a wealth of skills and expertise in the centre team and now is the perfect opportunity to put these into practice by transforming an outdoor space that everyone in Sidmouth can be proud of.”

Once the vote has closed and the winner chosen, the successful community group will work with a landscape designer to bring its plans to life.

The garden centre will assist by providing plants, equipment and a team of volunteers to bring the dream to reality.
