A 19-year-old had to be cut from her car after a three-vehicle crash outside Ottery which closed the main road to the town for several hours.

The incident caused police, fire and ambulance crews to rush to the scene on the B3174, with a team from Western Power also called out after one of the vehicles knocked an electricity pole.

A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the occupants of a blue Citroen Picasso and a red Skoda Fabia, both from Plymouth, were left unscathed by the collision around 1.30pm on Saturday, March 23.

But he said a 19-year-old girl from Honiton in a Ford Focus had to be cut out of her vehicle by fire crews, and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with serious injuries.

The road was closed between the Daisymount junction at the A30 and the bottom of Exeter Road in Ottery near The King’s School, as oil and debris had to be removed from the carriageway.

But the B3174 was reopened later in the afternoon once the Western Power team had made sure the electricity pole was safe.
