WHAT better way to spend Christmas afternoon than enter our competition to win one of five West Country rural guides produced by Country Living Magazine?

The Guide to Rural England - The West Country has just been published in its fourth edition and gives tourists and locals plenty of ideas on where to go, what to see and do and where to stay and eat.

Covering Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset, the glossy, full-colour guide contains a wealth of information.

It devotes several pages to the Sid Valley, taking in some of its well known landmarks, such as Sidmouth Museum, the Norman Lockyer Observatory and Sidbury Parish Church, as well as local businesses, including Hayman's Butchers and Sidmouth Trawlers in Fisherman's Yard.

At Ottery St Mary we learn about its 14th century church, commissioned by Bishop Grandisson in 1337, which was modelled on Exeter Cathedral.

During the mid-18th century its vicar was John Coleridge, whose thirteenth child became a celebrated poet.

There are interesting historical notes for each town and village mentioned as well as maps for each area and a number of suggested walks, making the guide a great book to keep with you on your travels.

To win one of five copies on offer, all you have to do is answer the following question:

What was the name of the famous poet who lived in Ottery St Mary?

a. William Wordsworth

b. Samuel Taylor Coleridge

c. Percy Bysshe Shelley
