PUPILS at The King's School have come up trumps in this year's key stage three league tables.The school came third in the Devon tables, which look at the achievements of pupils aged 13 and 14 in the core subjects of mathematics, science and English.Out of 182 pupils at the school eligible to take the exams, 78 per cent achieved a level five or above in English with 59 per cent attaining level six.Five is the expected level for the key stage three age group.Students also performed well in mathematics with 95 per cent of pupils achieving level five or above and 75 per cent reaching level six or above.Pupils' performance in science was also strong with 84 per cent achieving level five and above and 52 per cent achieving level six and above.The success means an aggregate score across the three subjects of 265, higher than last year's score of 253.Colin Manser, deputy headteacher at King's, said: "We are very pleased, as the tables reflect the hard work of the students and staff at the school."We are very interested in students' progress throughout their time at the school and this is one of several indicators of how the year group as a whole are progressing."Robin Mitchell, chair of King's governors, said: "We are always pleased when pupils at the school do well and these results are very good."Among the things which really matter to parents are the GCSE grades and these results show many students are on track."Mr Mitchell hoped the strong showing would indicate future success for the students when they come to sit their exams.
