Harpford Hall volunteers determined to keep repairs local

‘Keep it local’ is the mantra for the volunteers breathing new life into Harpford Hall.
The committee is using tradespeople from Newton Poppleford and sourcing oak from within five miles of the venue to rebuild its tower.
The work has been paid for by fundraisers including a duo’s garden party last month that netted nearly £900.
Committee chairman Val Ranger said: “We had a fantastic afternoon and Lesley Woolley and Jackie Baum worked their socks off baking and making jam for the cream teas. Since the community purchased the hall under the Right to Bid scheme, we have been working towards raising funds for restoration and redecoration.
“As with so many of these jobs, and particularly with older buildings, once you start, you can uncover some hidden issues.”
Newton Poppleford joinery Woodleys is making new windows and Val said village painter Lee Melluish had done an ‘amazing’ job bringing the building up to scratch.
