THE Sidmouth Company of the Church Lads' Brigade returned on Sunday evening after a most successful week's camp. The site chosen this year was at Longbridge, two miles from Plympton and three miles from Plymouth. The site was ideally situated for the purpose, one portion of a large field being roped off for the exclusive use of the Company and at this part of the River Plym was a safe bathing pool complete with steps and diving board.
IN connection with the local Labour Party a very successful rally was held in the parish hall, Sidmouth, on Wednesday, attended by a large gathering of supporters from Sidmouth and the East Devon district. In the afternoon a tea was held at which an address was given by Miss Mary Sutherland, organiser of the Women's Section of the Labour Party.

SIDMOUTH and District Photographic Club went for a cruise on the River Exe on Monday evening and with the glorious weather then prevailing, this turned out to be one of the most pleasant functions in the club's life. Remembering how well Mr Peter Eley organised the trip to Exeter Airport two years ago, members asked him to suggest the venue for another summer outing this year.
THE local branch of the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association received enormous encouragement from the success which attended the throwing open of the garden of Windmill House on Sunday last.

THE function room of the Balfour Arms, Woolbrook, Sidmouth will stay open until 1am every night during the Folk Festival, including the Sunday despite police objections. Admission to the room will be restricted to performers who will have to produce a specially printed ticket handed out by the folk festival organisers. The extension of hours from August 3, to August 10 inclusive was agreed by Honiton magistrates.
THE footbridge which crosses the River Sid at Lawn Vista, Sidmouth, is in such a dangerous condition that it could soon be closed to the public. Part of the wooden handrail has broken off, making the bridge dangerous to children and elderly people who could easily stumble into the river. Plastic tape has been stretched across the gaps in the handrail as a temporary measure.
