PARENT AND TODDLER: A new group for parents and toddlers is starting in Branscombe on Wednesday, January 16, from 2pm to 3pm in the village hall.

Organised by Patricia Ratcliff, she says it will offer free play, use of equipment at the hall and refreshments will be provided.

It will run every other Wednesday, and the cost is £1 per family per session.

SOCIETY MEETING: Beer Horticultural Society’s annual meeting will be held in the function room of the Mariners’ Hall on Tuesday (January 15).

The society is still in need of a new secretary after Pete Spencer stepped down from the position in October, following the society’s charm show.

The position involves including attending meetings, preparing agendas, taking minutes and advertising the group’s events around the village.

MONTHLY MEET: The Beer Women’s Institute were joined by the Seaton branch on Wednesday for their New Year party.

There was entertainment from musician Emily Miller, and the ladies did their own catering, bringing plates of food.

The Beer branch normally meet on the first Wednesday of the month.

The first walk of the year will be held on January 20, but Pete said people from the village can always visit the office next to the forge.

QUIZ CONTINUES: Beer Social Club’s target quiz returns tomorrow from 8pm.

This is the fourth round of the competition that runs on a Saturday of each winter month until the finals in April.

Entry is £1.50 per head.

HOUSING GROUP: A meeting to discuss setting up a Community Land Trust (CLT) in Branscombe will be held on Monday from 6.30pm until 8.30pm.

Parish councillors want to set up the CLT to keep housing affordable for villagers, in particular young families who want to stay in the area but can’t afford to expand, and elderly residents who want to downsize.

FILM FAN FOLLY: The Beer Film Society is showing Anna Karenina, last year’s adaptation of Tolstoy’s classic, on Monday (January 14).

It will be shown at Steamers, where the bar will be open for drinks, coffee and popcorn from 7pm.

Tickets are £4 for members and £5 for the general public.

BEDROOM BAND: Beer’s youth hostel has invited rising star Liz Lawrence to perform at the YHA on Monday, January 21.

The singer, who has supported Ben Howard, Ani Difranco and Chris Rea, is touring homes across the country to promote her album ‘Bedroom Hero’ .

Entry is free and YHA Beer staff member Jamie Gorman will warm up the crowd.
