Volunteers are needed to help ‘spruce up Sidmouth’ before the Britain in Bloom judges visit on Tuesday, August 8.

The town is one of 78 finalists going for gold in this year’s Royal Horticultural Society national competition.

Sidmouth in Bloom (SiB) is calling on everyone to do their part to keep Sidmouth clean.

Chairman Lynette Talbot said: “SiB will be showcasing the town to Teresa Potter and Ian Beaney on August 8.

“The Belmont Hotel has kindly sponsored the early morning presentation and from there the judges will visit parks, the town, the Byes and view the work done by different voluntary groups and children.

“The best of community horticulture will be shown including community orchards, wild flower fields and creative horticulture.

“The town’s entry is assessed across three key criteria: horticultural achievement, community participation and environmental responsibility.

“Sidmouth in Bloom has been cleaning, weeding, painting and with the assistance of volunteers and EDDC Streetscene are sure that the town will impress the judges.

“The folk festival will only enhance what a great tourist town this is, and everyone will want it looking clean and beautiful.

“SiB thanks Stuart Hughes for getting the verges cut but townsfolk could assist by sweeping and clearing weeds from paths.

“We hope that everyone will do their part in keeping Sidmouth clean.”

Anyone who can spare some time to help should call info@sidmouthinbloom.org or phone 01395 578081.

The results are announced at the Britain in Bloom awards ceremony in Llandudno on October 27.
