Horse trapped in badger sett in Newton Pop

Rescue bid launched
FIREFIGHTERS from Sidmouth were among crews who raced to Newton Poppleford to rescue a horse trapped in a badger sett today (Thursday).
The incident unfolded in Venn Ottery Road at around noon.
A fire service spokesperson said: “A fire engine from Sidmouth, together with our animal rescue team from our special ops station in Exeter, was mobilised following a call from the owner of a horse that had become stuck down a badger sett.
“On arrival crews confirmed the horse had fallen down the slope of the sett and was lying awkwardly, unable to gain its footing.”
At 2.15pm, crews were still in attendance and at work, alongside a vet who had sedated the horse, trying to relocate it to flatter ground by using a tripod and harness system for lifting.
The horse also received oxygen therapy from the crews.
Firefighters left he scene at around 4pm and left the situation in hands of vet and owner.
