WORRIED members of the public called police to Sidmouth after a dog owner left their pet in a car on a hot day last weekend.

Officers attended the report on Saturday but found on arrival the windows had been left open and the dog was well.

However police are warning owners not to leave their pets in vehicles during the summer.

A spokesperson said: "Even when it is cloudy the temperature in vehicles can rise to an unbearable degree and it could taken even less than 20 minutes for a dog to die from the heat.
