Animal cruelty warning from police

PET owners could be punished for acts of cruelty to animals if they leave dogs in cars on hot days in Sidmouth, police have warned.

Sergeant Andy Turner told residents and visitors: “I’m disappointed the public message still isn’t getting through to some owners.

“Its simple. Don’t leave dogs in cars during hot weather.”

A concerned member of the public alerted officers to two dogs left in a vehicle in hot conditions at around 2.50pm on June 22.

Unfortunately the car had left by the time police arrived.

PS Turner warned pet owners: “Police will deal with cruelty offences if people are found to cause unnecessary suffering to their animals. This is a problem that happens regularly throughout the summer.”
