Hundreds of youngsters lined up to receive free treats as part of Sidmouth’s hot cross buns giveaway on Good Friday.
Bad weather saw the century-old tradition moved indoors, but it was still a big success.
The long-standing Good Friday event was started more than 100 years ago when the town’s bakers went on strike. Townsfolk travelled to Exeter, brought back supplies and the tradition was born.
This year, volunteers handed out the delicious treats in All Saints Church Hall after an opening ceremony conducted by Sidmouth Lions Club’s Ian Skinner. Sidmouth Town Band also performed.
Jasmin Shackleford and Bethany Parsons, both aged 12, were the first in the queue. Jasmin said: “It was the first time I have done it. We were outside quite a while so they brought us in from the cold and were all just so kind.”
Bethany added: “It is something I have always done and is an Easter tradition.”
