The Earth’s nearest astronomical neighbour lit up Devon from the closest point in its cycle this week.
Herald photographer Alex Walton spotted the so-called ‘supermoon’ – a phenomenon seen when a full moon or a new moon coincides with the natural satellite’s closest approach in its elliptical orbit – rising over East Hill.
Supermoons occur about once every 14 full moons in a full moon cycle, so won’t be seen again until August 2014.
