RADIO personality Judi Spiers says she will be switching on Sidmouth's Christmas lights.

"Yes I am going to switch on the lights at Sidmouth," she told the Herald this week.

Judi, who is patron of Sidmouth Lifeboat, was last seen in the town in January to lay the foundation stone of the charity's new boathouse extension.

A true 'Devon Maid', Judi returned to local radio after spending several years with BBC Radio 2.

She is a highly experienced and respected broadcaster and interviewer and is a popular face both in the South West and up country, having worked at the old Pebble Mill studios.

She now has a daily three hour morning slot on Radio Devon and in the past couple of years has interviewed Devon singer Joss Stone, Nancy Sinatra, Katherine Jenkins, Noel Edmunds and writer Joanna Trollope to name but a few.

Last week Sidmouth Town Council agreed to a business working party suggestion that this year the Christmas lights switch-on should be a more up-beat event, held on a Saturday.

The date agreed is Saturday, November 14.
