BROADCASTER Judi Spiers lent a hand as work on a £90,000 extension to the Sidmouth Lifeboat Boathouse stepped up a gear this week.

BBC Radio Devon presenter Judi, who is patron of the service, laid the first brick of the two-storey project which will provide Sidmouth's highly-valued crew with a new kit room and showers as well as a new training area.

The existing crew room at the front of the building will also be renovated along with a new toilet and kitchen area.

Sidmouth Lifeboat's honorary chaplain, The Reverend Peter Leverton, blessed the site and was joined by crew members, local residents and the television and radio presenter in a prayer.
