CRIME in Ottery during July rose slightly from the same period last year.
Sixteen offences were recorded in the town from 95 calls made to police in comparison to eleven crimes from 98 calls in July 2008.
Incidents included a common assault at Coombe Lake and the theft of a chainsaw at an East Hill car park.
Dim-witted thieves also attempted to force open a token machine at Ottery's Esso garage car wash, even though it does not take cash.
