Lively welcome for two Sidmouth coast walkers who are on last leg of a 630-mile walk for Children’s Hospice SW
THERE was a lively welcome on Wednesday for two Sidmouth coast walkers who are on the last leg of a 630 mile walk for charity.
Sidmouth Steppers lined up on the seafront to make a colourful archway for Russell Smith and Liz Hayman to dance through with dog Fizz, as they passed through Sidmouth on their way to Poole.
Russell’s wife Gill had organised friends to welcome the walkers, who received a �500 cheque from the Steppers and �250 from Sidmouth Lions, as well as a bubbly reception at Sidmouth Sailing Club.
With just 100 miles to go on the SW Coast Path walk, Russell and Liz hope to have raised more than �10,000 for Children’s Hospice South West.
Gill said: “Russell was overwhelmed by the reception they received. They have been thoroughly enjoying the scenery of the countryside and have fallen in love with the coastline.”
The duo’s website: www.witterthewalk.wordpress.com has had 10,800 hits “with avid bloggers watching every day” said Gill, who acts as back-up for the walkers.
On Saturday, Russell’s granddaughter Olivia, 12, joined them, walking eight-and-a-half hours from Kingswear to Brixham.
