PUPILS at Branscombe School saw their head teacher get a good soaking by firefighters on Saturday."They wanted me to go in the stocks but I didn't think that was very appropriate," said Katie Gray, who described the PTFA Summer Fair as a very successful day, enjoyed by staff, parents, children and the community.Instead she volunteered to be soaked by the firefighters if more than £100 was collected in their helmet by 2.30pm. More than £200 was given and she got drenched. In all more than £1,800 was raised which will go to the PTFA fund to buy an adventure area in the school grounds.Mrs Gray said this was a "fantastic" amount to raise in one afternoon. There was plenty to do for everyone, including a bouncy castle, locally produced hot dogs and burgers, craft tent, horse rides, police, fire brigade, majorettes, steel drums, face painting, coconut shy and skittles. Class Three children devised fun stalls which they manned throughout the day and several 'volunteers' were put in the stocks.Bethany, 11, said: "The summer fair was absolutely amazing, lots of people were encouraged to visit. They enjoyed the stalls, displays and many enjoyed going in the stocks!
