The owners of the stricken cargo ship have arranged for the work to be conducted on the wreck during daylight to watch for any change in the ship's status and any signs of pollution.

The inspections will be conducted alongside periodical aerial inspections which are being carried out by a Maritime and Coastguard Agency aircraft.

Work to remove the stern section was postponed on January 4 due to poor weather conditions, but it is hoped the operation will start again in March.

The options for the final removal are still under discussion.

DRS, the onshore contractors, continue to monitor the shoreline and clean up any debris washed ashore from the cargo vessel.
