THE extraordinary landscape at Woodbury Common is the subject of a talk in Branscombe next week.

Professor Chris Tilley, a well known anthropologist and archaeologist, will be presenting the third of the Branscombe Project Winter Talks on Monday evening.

Titled "The Archaeology of Woodbury Common", Chris will be looking at the archaeology, history and contemporary landscape of the East Devon pebblebed heathland.

The landscape, which extends over Woodbury Common and down to the sea at Budleigh Salterton, is made up entirely of bright multicoloured pebbles.

Professor Tilley, who some may remember from the study of gardening influences he did several years ago, will introduce the archaeology and history of the area, talk about the on-going excavation of a Bronze Age pebble mound, and discuss the meaning and significance which these pebbles might have had for people in the past, and relate this to the present.

The talk will be held in Branscombe Village Hall on Monday, February 23 at 7.30pm. Entrance is free.
