Motorists have complained about a landslip on the main road into Sidmouth that has been there for weeks.

The heap of red earth on Station Road has slid into the carriageway from the embankment just after a bend where the single carriageway is already narrow.

But when approached by the Herald a spokesman for Devon County Council said, because the slippage had fallen from an adjacent property onto the road, it was the landowner’s responsibility to remove it.

He added: “We’ve been in contact with them, and they’re aware of their responsibility to remove it as soon as possible. At this point we don’t believe it to be a safety risk, but we’re monitoring it closely and will take immediate action at the landowner’s expense if we need to remove it ourselves on safety grounds.”
