Next week is the last chance to see special exhibitions at Sidmouth Museum before they are dismantled to make way for new displays in 2017.

The cross-stitch portrayal of the ‘Long Picture’ by Phoebe Holley has been a major attraction for the past three years and volunteers are very grateful for its loan. Other displays that will change include the histories of the post office in the Sid Valley, West Country mining and life in Napoleonic times.

Hilary Briers said they all offer a fascinating insight into life in and around Sidmouth over different eras.

Also at the museum is the return of its popular Big Draw day on Wednesday (October 26), when all ages are invited to paint a piece of picture based on train travel in the town in the 1940s and 1950s, designed by Margaret Adams.

The museum will be open as usual until it closes for the season next Saturday (October 29) – but it will open for Sidmouth’s late-night shopping evening on Friday, December 2.
