Traders decked the streets and welcomed in shoppers with mince pies and mulled wine as late-night shopping returned to Sidmouth.

Father Christmas was in his sleigh courtesy of the Lions Club, Jesus was in his manger, played by Honey Hodgson and Eliza Easton-Woodruff, and there was festive music galore.

Shops enjoyed a boost as they put on special offers and they took the chance to thank their loyal customers. Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce chairman Mel Gater said: “Our late-night shopping event saw Sidmouth transformed for the evening with a host of fantastic entertainment for all the family. Shoppers really loved our new addition with the traditional Dean Organ from The Donkey Sanctuary drawing crowds and providing a warm welcome at the top of High Street with its festive music.

“We would like to thank everyone involved for making it a truly memorable evening for the town.”

Late-night shopping continues tonight (Thursday) and traders will open their doors until 8pm again on the next two Thursdays, December 15 and 22.
