A group of green-fingered residents in Newton Poppleford are opening their gardens to raise money for the village’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Gill Savage, who is opening her own garden, said they will be from across the village, some of which have never been open to the public before.

She said there will plenty of spring plants on show, and a range of private gardens are being opened.

The money raised from the event on Sunday, April 8 will go to the Newton Poppleford and Harpford Jubilee Fund.

The organisers are throwing a children’s party for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in June, and have rented a marquee foe the village playing field.

Entry to all eight gardens, six of which are from the village’s garden club, costs �2.50 for adults, and children go free.

They are open from 1pm to 5pm, and entrance includes a map of the open gardens.

There will also be refreshment son sale in the Village Hall, and one of the gardens is selling paintings by local artists.
