A POPULAR East Devon artist will be opening up his studio to display a range of paintings which were shown at a successful London exhibition earlier this year.

Alan Cotton will be exhibiting paintings at his Colaton Raleigh studio from Saturday, December 6 to Tuesday, December 9 from his 20th Anniversary London Exhibition at Messum's Fine Art in September.

In addition to the paintings on show at his studio exhibition which runs from 10am to 5pm daily, Alan will be launching two new Limited Edition Gilcee prints, including the first ever print of Hartland and one of Provence with cherry blossom below the hill town of Bonnieux

He said: "After an intensive period of painting for an exhibition it is very rewarding to be able to show the work to others, and for those who could not make it to London."

An Exeter man has already acquired a painting that would have been included in the exhibition.

Alan donated the painting of Piemonte in Northern Italy to the BBC Children in Need Appeal which, when auctioned on The Judi Spiers Show on Radio Devon, went for over £5,000.

Another donation made by Alan, for The Duke of Edinburgh Award, was for an artist to spend a day working with him in his Devon studio.

This prize went for £3,500 at an online auction, which was part of a fundraising event over two evenings at Windsor Castle.

The renowned explorer and adventurer David Hempleman-Adams had nominated Alan as his icon at the two dinners hosted by his Royal Highness, The Earl of Wessex.

Amongst other icons were actors David Jason, Germaine Greer, Linford Christie and Kate Adie.

Following Alan's Studio Exhibition at Colaton Raleigh, he plans to spend a year re-charging his batteries, having time away from his studio-travelling to gather new material for his paintings and catching up with distant friends.
