POLICE are warning people about a Canadian Lottery scam that is circulating in the area.
Cheques for large sums of money are being received by members of the public with no covering letters.
A while later the recipient of the cheques gets a phone call to say that the cheques are to cover the tax on winnings in a Canadian Lottery.
The victim is asked to pay the amount on the cheque into a Western Union account to release a much larger sum.
A police spokesman said: "If you have it happen to you, tear up the cheque when you get the phone call.
