PINEAPPLE queen Janice Voce is growing quite a tropical fruit salad in her Newton Poppleford conservatory.Last year she hit the headlines after growing a pineapple from a three-year-old plant she nurtered from a cut off top.Now she has produced two, and managed to root a mango as well.Mrs Voce, who is "well over 40", has beaten many experts in growing the sun-loving fruit. She said: "The same plant that grew a pineapple last year has given me another one and one I bought from a local shop and cut the top off has budded out in the first year."I am absolutely shocked as I was told it would take three years to fruit."There are no special reasons for her success other than a south-facing window sill and a liquid feed."I just have a good little green finger," added Mrs Voce, who will not be attempting papaya as she is allergic to them.As well as being known for her pineapple growing skills, she also has a reputation for making "strange" cakes.Last year she was interviewed live on BBC Radio 5 about her growing success, but for now she is busy running her new tearooms, Fancy That at East Budleigh after moving from Kingsdown Business Park, Sidmouth.
