A Sidmouth five-year-old is flying high after reaching the final of a national competition to name a new aeroplane.

Maisie McHugh is one of 10 finalists in the Thomson Airways’ #NameOurPlane contest to christen its new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and become a child ambassador.

Thomson asked youngsters aged between four and 11 to suggest a name and ideas to make children’s flying experiences better.

Maisie, who suggested the name Stargazer, has been invited to Gatwick at the end of the month to put her idea to a panel of judges and have a tour of the aircraft.

The lucky recipient will also win a family holiday to Mexico and will see their ideas trialed on the Dreamliner.
