Malden House celebrates ‘good’ rating

Residents at Malden House in Sidmouth receive a ‘good’ level of care, according to the Government’s health regulator.
Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) awarded the care home an overall mark of ‘good’ - with one aspect ‘outstanding’ - in its latest report.
In its findings, the CQC said it received ‘exceptional feedback’ from relatives and carers about the services and activities the home provides for its residents.
The inspector said: “People were encouraged to socialise, pursue their interests and hobbies and try new things in a variety of inspiring and innovative ways. Care was focused on people’s individual needs, wishes and preferences and they were supported to remain active and independent. People’s care needs were assessed and care records had individualised information about their needs. People experienced a level of care and support that promoted their health and wellbeing. Staff were highly motivated, enthusiastic and skilled at meeting people’s needs, which enhanced their quality of life.”
The CQC also praised provider Hartford Care Southern Limited for promoting ‘a culture of care, comfort and companionship’.
Malden House’s manager, Agnieszka Orlowska, said: “Whenever we have a new resident moving in, we want to make sure we know everything about them - their likes, their routines. The residents do not try to fit into Malden House. We try to fit Malden House around their routines. We are here for residents.”
She praised the team’s effort in responding quickly to problems and said that the home would not let standards slip as it pushes to achieve an ‘outstanding’ rating.
“Our mission statement is to provide a culture of care, comfort and companionship in a safe environment that is safe and happy for all residents,” added Agnieszka.
“It’s not just about the residents, it is about the families and carers and anyone that comes to visit our residents. We want to be one big family.”
