A Sidmouth care home is hosting a coffee morning to raise awareness and funds for a leading heart charity.

Malden House will donate proceeds from the event to Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) in memory of Jonathan Hayman, who died suddenly from a heart attack at the age of 27.

His grandmother, Barbara Douglas, is a resident at the care home.

Aga Orlowska, manager of Malden House, said: “We know how important this is to Barbara and her family and would like to support them in any way that we can. This is why we are here - not only to care and support our residents, but their extended family as well.”

Visitors will be able to enjoy a hot drink and a slice of cake, buy Christmas cards, decorations and bric-a-brac, and listen to the Sidmouth Ukulele Strummers.

The event takes place on Saturday, November, 26, between 10am and 12.30pm. Entry is free for children and £4.50 for adults.

CRY launches its annual awareness week tomorrow (Saturday).
