A man has been freed from a car near Upottery following a road traffic collision this afternoon.

The incident occurred on the A303 eastbound and firefighters from Ottery St Mary, Honiton and Chard were dispatched shortly before 2.30pm.

A Devon and Somerset Fire Service spokesman said: “On arrival crews confirmed two females had already been released from the vehicle and one male was still trapped inside.

“Crews got to work with hydraulic cutting gear and a reciprocating saw to extricate the casualty. The male casualty was conveyed to hospital by land ambulance.”

Traffic is queuing both ways between A303 (Upottery) and Viney Lane (Rawridge). There is congestion on A30 to A35 Monkton Road (Honiton) and on A303 to Giant’s Grave (Buckland St Mary). Police are directing traffic while recovery work takes place.
