Ottregians are being asked to comment on proposed development in the town as the district council finalises its Local Plan.

After the latest round of amendments new maps highlighting sites for housing and employment land have been produced.

East Devon District Council (EDDC) wants to give residents the chance to take a further look at the plan for Ottery and opened up a further public consultation.

The maps show the former Switchgear factory earmarked for up to 100 homes, and a ‘strategic allocation’ on land at the west of the town for up to 200 homes and two hectares of employment land.

The plan, which sets out Ottery’s future up to 2026, also highlights a piece of land for an expansion of The King’s School, and reinforces the development boundary for the town.

The consultation last until June 11, and any further amendments will be looked in July ahead of a final draft being sent to the Government later this year.

The document said: “Ottery St Mary will see development focused on meeting local needs and making the town a more vibrant centre.”

The previous draft of the Local Plan had caused controversy in the town after if allocated more than 400 new homes to be built.

Ottery Town Council and local campaigners pressed for months to have the total reduced to 300, which was eventually amended.
