NOTHING could take away that magical moment of winning Outstanding Optometrist of the Year 2008, even if someone did pinch one of their trophies.Frederick and Soo McShaw are pictured looking ecstatic after scooping the prestigious prize for their business, McShaw of Sidmouth, at a ceremony at London's Hilton Hotel.McShaw's prizes didn't stop there; it also won a second award as Software Practice of the Year, recognising its commitment to providing a flexible, patient focused and efficient service. It was the trophy for this award that was pinched before the end of the evening, but, said a member of staff at the High Street premises, it would be replaced soon. The annual awards are hosted by The Optician Journal and have 13 categories seeking to reward the best practices and individuals in the country in their field.Mr McShaw said: "I was absolutely thrilled to have won this award. We were up against some highly respected, colleagues with national reputations, so it is a huge honour."His competitors for the top award were other independent practices and large national chains.Mr McShaw thanked his team at the practice, those who support it and his customers. One customer, Edward Willis Fleming, said he believed Mr McShaw deserved the honour, adding: "He represents all that is best about optometry across all areas of his business. "His work in the community and within his practice demonstrates enormous respect for his patients and passion for his work.
