Sidmouth royal street party - just 13 tables left for massive wedding celebrations

WITH gathering excitement over the forthcoming royal marriage, the Sidmouth Herald will publish a special commemorative supplement on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding day, Friday, April 29.

We would love to hear of some royal anecdotes from our readers, who may remember the revelries from Prince Charles and Diana’s wedding celebrations in Sidmouth in 1981, or of the Queen’s silver jubilee in 1977. Maybe you memory goes back further than that.

Perhaps you were one of the children in our photograph, off on a special silver jubilee outing. If so, please call Diana Bowerman on (01392) 888 500. Also contact us if you have mementos and photographs of any royal events held in the town that we could include in our supplement.

Make sure you get your special Royal Wedding edition of the Herald and look out for the following issue when we will be covering all that goes on in the town to mark this most recent royal marriage.

More than 1,000 people are expected to join the town centre street party, organised by Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce, with 107 of the 120 tables now sold from The Anchor Inn, Old Fore Street.

If you are going, don’t forget to take chairs as none will be provided.

Entertainment is being finalised and there will be plenty for adults and children to enjoy, including street entertainers, singers and of course, the championship-winning Sidmouth Town Band.

Richard Eley is cooking up a fabulous competition for the partygoers, while John Hellier, manager of Shaul Bakers, Fore Street, is donating two massive celebratory cakes – one fully decorated to mark William and Kate’s marriage – for people to enjoy.

John said: “We are all part of the community and I wish to join in the fun.”

The theme of the event is red, white and blue, and there will be prizes for the best dressed person and the best decorated table, during the afternoon, which runs from 4pm to 7pm.
