Organisers behind Ottery’s street market have hailed the return of the event a success – and say that more stalls are lined up for next month.

Shoppers were invited to sample the range of goods on offer at the Mill Street market last Friday by town crier Toni Williams-Pugh, who officially opened the event dressed in traditional garb and tricorne hat.

An estimated 100 additional shoppers visited the town, and organiser Councillor John Harding said that several traders had already booked extra space for the next event.

“The market went well, we were really pleased with it,” added Cllr Harding. “It wasn’t as busy as last year, but we were expecting that because of the bank holiday. It is the first one we’ve put on in nearly 12 months, so it’ll take a bit of time for word to spread. But we had a positive response, and there will be quite a lot more traders next month.”

The next market is scheduled to take place on June 6.
