Monthly crime statistics revealed for Sidmouth

Sidmouth’s latest monthly crime statistics have been revealed.

Sergeant Andy Squires spoke about the number of crimes recorded in August and September at a Sidmouth Town Council meeting.

In total, 125 crimes were recorded during those two months - the same number recorded in those two months last year. A total of 328 incidents were recorded this year compared to 316 in 2017.

This year, 15 violence with injury crimes were recorded, compared to 14 in August and September 2017.

Violence without injury was down from 27 to 23 as were burglaries of homes, which fell from nine to five. Non-dwelling burglaries also fell from nine to seven and there was an increase in vehicle offences, from six to 11. Shoplifting rose from seven to eight and ‘other’ thefts fell from 16 to 22. There were 17 criminal damages, up from 16 and public order offences stayed the same at nine. Possession of weapons, trafficking of drugs and possession of drugs all increased.

Sgt Squires said: “I’m delighted about this because we have actually been out and caught some. We have names against the offences which is a 25 per cent detection rate.”
